Heart Open to the Sky
I had the words 'limbs stretched wide, heart open to the sky' on my mind as I made this painting — I saw myself lying on my back on the water, with the deep sea reaching far below me and the eternal sky above me. There I lie, a drop in the ocean, a ripple with no end in sight, cradled in that liminal space where sea meets sky.
Painting this was a deep sea dive kind of travel. If the canvas was the surface of the sea, then I had fallen through. And yet when I surfaced, I discovered the lightness that had poured through. That's the funny thing — when we travel deep, deep, deep towards the core, into the depths of our own deep seas, we find our way back to the glowing heart of it all. And so it is on the spiral path.
